On the 2nd of March, JD.Com, the largest online retailer in China launched JD Supply Chain College at the JD Smart Supply Chain Strategy Conference in Beijing. It has been known that JD.Com developed a highly automated and advanced logistics and warehousing network to enhance its supply chain capabilities. The launching of the Supply Chain College shows that JD.Com has ambitions to make themselves as a benchmark in supply chain excellence, and lead the trend of ‘Intelligent Retailing’ in the future.

One of the highlights of this launching event is that JD.Com will fulfill their great ambitions together with partners. As one of the leading organizations which has the most advanced supply chain expertise, The Value Chain Academy (TVCA) is invited as one of the three strategic knowledge partners to support JD.Com in making this initiative a great success.

Coming back to 2016, The Fresh Connection – a cross-functional supply chain simulation was introduced to JD.Com via The Value Chain Academy. People from several departments of JD.com teamed up together with one goal – developing themselves into the best management team and turning this virtual company around. Although there was a lot of frustration in the beginning, after days of analysis, team meetings and learning, all of the teams improved their supply chain capabilities and successfully applied their skills in this intelligent simulation. What makes this more exciting is that during the TFC Global Supply Chain Challenge in 2016, teams from JD claimed both the Chinese champion and the second place. In doing so they gained a spot in the Global final in Miami, USA to compete with the best supply chain teams from all over the world.

The launching of JD Supply Chain College together with TVCA and the other advanced supply chain management institutes shows that building up a supply chain knowledge base and developing a well aligned supply chain team will play a more important role in JD.Com for the future and this will enable this great company to take their business to the next level. We believe the journey of JD.Com and The Fresh Connection will continue as a fruitful cooperation.
